From the Harper ISD Office of Guidance and Counseling ACC application process Summer 2009 Question 1: Am I a good candidate for dual-credit courses? ü I have an overall average of 85 or better. ü I do not have conflicts that would keep me from attending class in the evenings. ü I can get my own transportation to Fredericksburg or Harper in the evenings. ü I can afford to buy my own books. ü I am doing well enough in my high school courses that I can add a college course to my load. Question 2: What is a dual-credit course? While you are in high school and if you are eligible, you may take courses through ACC. If they are true dual-credit, that means you are getting both high school and college credit at the same time. For example, you may take GOVT 2305 United States Government at ACC , and that would take care of high school Government your senior year, as long as your grades are good. You may also take courses that are just for college credit, like Texas State and Local Government. It would not be for a high school credit because it is not approved as a dual-credit course. Question 3: How much will it cost me? The tuition fee is waived, unless you are taking a distance-learning (online) course. That means these courses are free to you until you graduate from high school. Your only expenses will be books, transportation, and supplies. The online courses will cost you an additional $40. Question 4: Which courses are dual-credit? · GOVT 2305 United States Government = Harper US Government · ECON 2301 Macro Economics OR ECON 2302 Micro Economics = Harper Economics · HIST 1302 History II = Harper US History · MATH 1314 College Algebra = Harper Algebra 2 · COSC 1300 Intro to Computers = Harper BCIS I or II · PSYC 2301 Introduction to Psychology = Harper Psychology under Social Studies · ENGL 1301 Comp 1 AND ENGL 1302 Comp II AND ENGL 2322 Brit. Lit. I OR ENGL 2323 Brit. From the Harper ISD Office of Guidance and Counseling ACC Registration process Summer 2009 Decide which class(es) you plan to take. · Do I need this class for graduation? Remember that you may not take a dual-credit course that is required for graduation during your last semester of high school. All dual-credit courses for classes required for graduation must be completed by the end of the fall semester of your senior year. You may still take ACC classes in the spring of your senior year, but they will not be dual-credit. · Do I want to take a class that goes toward my college major? Check with the colleges you are considering to determine your requirements. Try to select courses that go toward your degree. You should also check the Texas Common Course Numbering System at http://www.tccns.org/. Click on the Online Matrix, then 2006-2007 searchable matrix. You can compare ACC course numbers to your school’s course numbers to see if and how your ACC courses will transfer. · Will there be scheduling conflicts? Check your extracurricular calendar. Also, make sure you don’t sign up for classes offered on the same nights. · How many classes should I sign up for? You may take up to two classes each semester. · What if I’m going for the Distinguished Diploma? Part of the requirements for the Distinguished Diploma includes four advanced measures. Most of our students satisfy this by taking four college academic courses and receiving a B or higher. · How do I know how many hours a class is worth? At ACC, you simply look at the course number. The second number tells you how many hours it is worth. Ex. History 1301 is worth 3 hours; Spanish 1512 is worth 5 hours. Complete your Early College Start Co-Enrollment Form, and return to Mrs. White ASAP. · A new form must be filled out every semester. · Until this form is returned to Mrs. White for her to mail to ACC Fredericksburg to be processed by them, there will be a hold on your account. You will NOT BE ABLE TO REGISTER until all holds are removed. Register by phone or online. · Just turning in your form DOES NOT register you for class. · Directions for phone registration are on the attached sheet. · Just to be sure, call back and confirm that you are enrolled. Never assume! Buy your books. · Look online at www.austincc.edu for the ACC Bookstore to see which books are required for your class. · Try to buy a used one from a former student to save a little $$$. I have a board for you all to post your books for sell outside the old gym. You can also buy them online at sites like www.half.com. Turn your grade reports in to Mrs. White as soon as possible after your semester ends. Remember that these are real college classes. The grades will forever be on your college transcripts, even if you fail. The grades will appear on your high school transcript as follows: A=95, B=85, C=78, D=73, F=69. These are weighted courses. If you take a class during the school day online, you must accept your grade, even if it is failing.
Add/Drops will be from June 1-3. Classes dropped after that time will receive a “W.” Remember that you are allowed only six Ws (W=Withdraw) in your college career without financial penalty. The first summer session begins on June 1. How to Register by Phone1. Call 512.454.3774. (If calling long distance, use the toll free phone number: 1.888.891.2444) 2. Enter your Social Security Number and press the pound key. 3. Enter PIN-Personal Identification Number (your birth month and year in the format MMYY) followed by the pound # key. 4. If asked, enter the number that matches the semester for which you are registering. (1-fall, 2-spring, 3-summer)

The first time you go through telephone registration each semester
you will be 6. For the registration codes, use 2* to Add or 3* to Drop then enter your 5-digit synonym followed by the pound # key. It’s a very good idea to write down the synonyms before calling the registration system so that your session will not time out on you as you are looking up your synonyms.
7. When you are finished adding and dropping, press 5# to hear a list of your courses and 9# to Exit the registration system. 8. You will be asked to add a parking permit if you have not already bought one this school year. If YES, press 1# If NO, press 9# 9. If you want to pay by credit card now (Visa/MasterCard/Discover), please have your credit card handy (no debit cards) and press 1#. When asked: Enter your credit card number followed by the # sign. Enter the expiration date (MMYY) followed by the # and wait for system to verify your card and respond to you. (M=month and Y=year - Single digit numbers must be preceded by a zero.) 10. WAIT for the system to tell you the credit card has been verified and the charge accepted or refused. DO NOT HANG UP UNTIL THERE IS A RESPONSE! If there is no response, check with your credit card company before trying again. 11. To pay at a later time (don’t miss your payment deadline) call 512.454.3774, when prompted to enter a registration code, press 9# followed by 1#. Need registration assistance?
