This is a listing of scholarships we receive, and they are also emailed to all seniors and their parents.  However, please don't stop your search here!  Ask your employers, banks, churches, insurance companies, etc. if they offer scholarships.  Be sure to apply for your Free Application for Federal Student Aid. (WARNING:  This is a FREE application.  Do not go to www.fafsa.com or any other company that charges you to fill out the application.)  Use every free internet search you can find.  (Examples:  www.fastweb.com or www.nextstudent.com)

General $$$ News by College or Organization

Angelo State University offers several gift aid programs which do not require repayment.

  1. Blue and Gold Guarantee:  Provides full tuition and mandatory fees for freshmen coming from Texas families with a combined adjusted gross income of $40,000 or less.

  2. Graduation Incentive Program:  Offers $1500 university monies plus $1000 from the State of Texas for entering ASU freshmen who fulfill requirements for their bachelor's degrees and graduate in four years.

  3. Carr Academic Scholarship Program:  Awards $1000 to $3000 to high school seniors who rank in the top 45% of their class and score a minimum 1020 SAT (combined math/critical reading) or a minimum composite 22 ACT.  An additional $1500 is available for need.  Priority Deadline:  December 1, 2009.  (Date added:  10/19/09)

 

Texas Elks State Association Scholarships are available online at www.texaselks.org. (Date added:  10/20/09)

  1. TESA Annual Essay Contest due February 28, 2010.

  2. TESA Teenager of the Year Contest due March 1, 2010.

Texas State University offers several freshman scholarships.  For competitive scholarships, you must submit all documents and gain admittance to Texas State no later than December 15, 2009.  Go to www.finaid.txstate.edu for complete information. (Date added:  10/20/09)

  1. President's Honor Scholarship:  $20,000 ($5,000/year); minimum SAT/ACT score of 1400/32; graduated in top 15% of class

  2. Texas State Achievement Scholarship: $10,000 ($2,500/year); minimum SAT/ACT score of 1300/29; graduated in top 15% of class

  3. Terry Foundation Scholarship:  $56,000 ($14,000/year); based on financial need; minimum SAT/ACT score of 1200/25; ranked in top 10% of class

  4. University Scholars: $14,000 ($3,500/year); top 10% of your class

  5. Lone Star Scholarship: $10,000 ($2,500/year); top 10% of your class

  6. LBJ Achievement Scholarship:  $2,000; top 25% of your class; either first-generation college students or current/past participant in Subsidized High School Lunch Program, Talent Search, or Upward Bound.  (See website for others.)

 

The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) offers full tuition and fees for first-time freshmen with a family income of $30,000 or less.  To qualify for the UTSAccess program, students must:  meet the income requirement, be admitted to UTSA by March 31, 2010, and apply for FAFSA by March 31, 2010.  For more information on UTSAccess, please visit www.utsa.edu/financialaid or call 800.669.0919.  (Date added:  10/21/09)

 

Texas Lutheran University Pacesetter Award for College Excellence (PACE)... PACE is TLU's top scholarship and carries a monetary value of up to $18,000 per year.  Students must apply and be accepted for admission by February 6, 2010, in order to be considered for the PACE Scholarship.  For additional information, visit www.tlu.edu, or call them at 800/771-8521.  Deadline:  February 6, 2010.  (Date added:  01/13/10).

 

Baylor University... The Carr P. Collins Scholars Program makes awards to students who have demonstrated leadership through service.  They award $4,350 each year, renewable for up to three years.  Students must have a combined CR and M score of 1250 on SAT or 28 on the ACT.  For more information, go to http://www.baylor.edu/admissions/CarrPCollins.  They also offer merit scholarships on a competitive basis in value from $12,000 to $68,000 over four years.  Contact 1-800-BAYLOR-U for more information.

 

OCTOBER

Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, Inc...  The Coca-Cola Scholars Program annually awards 50 scholarship of $20,000 each and 200 scholarship of $10,000 each to current or home school seniors.  Applications available online at www.coca-colascholars.orgDeadline:  October 31, 2009. NOVEMBER

Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship/Leadership Award... The Elks National Foundation awards 500 competitive, four year scholarship ranging from $1000-$15,000/year.  Applications are available online at www.elks.org/enf/scholars or at your local Elks Lodge.  Applications must be submitted to the Lodge nearest your permanent address by November 2, 2009.  To locate your nearest Lodge, go to www.elks.org/enf/FindALodge.cfm. DECEMBER

Rebekah Assembly of Texas... A $1000 scholarship is available for a Texas resident to attend any accredited two- or four-year college/university.  Scholarship is based on academic ability, community service, personal development, and financial need.  Applications available at your counselor's office or Transitions classroom.  Deadline:  December 31.  (Date added:  10/13/09)

 

JANUARY

Elks Grand Lodge Legacy Awards... Applications available online at www.elks.org/enf/scholarsDeadline:  January 8, 2010.  (Date added: 10/20/09)

 

Texas Engineering Foundation Scholarship... The Texas Society of Professional Engineers and the Texas Engineering Foundation will award approximately $100,000 in scholarships to students attending an ABET-accredited university.  Applications are available in your counselor's office or Transitions classroom.  Deadline:  January 15, 2010.

 

Texas Student Housing... This scholarship is open to students accepted to colleges in Austin, College Station, or Denton, who have NOT signed off-campus housing leases.  Scholarships are awarded for the full or partial cost of an off-campus room for one academic year at the Ballpark in Austin, Town Lake in Austin, the Ridge at North Texas, and the Cambridge in College Station, or at an alternate comparable facility if designated by TSH.  Applications available at your counselor's office or Transitions classroom.  Deadline:  January 31, 2010(Date added:  10/20/09)

 

FEBRUARY

Cailloux Foundation Scholarship... Sixteen renewable awards of up to $12,000 each ($48,000 over four years) will be granted annually to new recipients meeting the eligibility requirements. Applicants must have a minimum SAT score of 1022 (verbal and math combined) or a minimum ACT score of 22 composite, a minimum grade average of 85 (on a scale of 100), and be in the top third of their graduating class to be eligible for consideration. Applicants must have a family adjusted gross income of  no more than $70,000 per year.

How to Apply

  • Go to www.applyists.net to access the scholarship application between November 1, 2009, and February 1, 2010. Any eligible student may complete the scholarship application for consideration.
  • The access key is CALOX.
  • The application form is extensive. It must be fully completed and  all requested attachments including the parents’ latest income tax return, other financial information, and a list of all other scholarships that have been applied for and received must be provided.
  • The scholarship management company will only review complete  applications submitted by the deadline. Be sure that you have actually submitted the application online.
  • All requested attachments are required and must be mailed and postmarked by February 1, 2010.

 

James Avery Craftsman - Fine Arts Scholarship...  This scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $5,000 in increments over eight semesters.  You must:  be pursuing a career in the field of Fine Arts (i.e. graphic art, sculpturing, painting, photography); have a GPA between 2/50 and 4.0; have applied as a full-time student to an accredited college/university.  Applications must be postmarked by no later than Friday, February 19, 2010.  Applications available at your counselor's office or Transitions room.  (Date added:  10/13/09)

 

KFC Colonel's Scholars Program... KFC is offering a scholarship for up to $5,000/year.  You must: be a graduating senior, maintain a high school GPA of 2.75 or higher, and be pursuing a bachelor's degree (must enter an in-state 2- or 4-year accredited college).  Complete your online application at www.kfcscholars.orgThe application is available from December 1 through February 10, 2010.  (Date added:  10/20/09)

 

Texas A&M Foundation... This scholarship is for incoming freshmen to the university with awards ranging from $2000-$25,000 per year.  You must be attending Texas A&M-College Station in the fall.  Note that there is another separate scholarship available to TAMU students in the April section below.  Applications are available in your counselor's office or Transitions classroom. Best Buy @15 Scholarship Program... This year the Best Buy @15 Scholarship Program will award 1,000 scholarships of $1,000 each to students in grades 9-12 living in the U.S. or Puerto Rico who plan to enter a full-time undergraduate course of study upon high school graduation.  They're looking for students with solid grades, who are involved in volunteer efforts in their schools and communities, and/or have a work history. Students must be planning to attend a college, university or technical school in the fall immediately following their high school graduation. 9–12th grade students from private, public, alternative or home schools are eligible to apply. Grants are a one-time award, so if you were a winner in the past, you aren't eligible to apply again. Scholarship applications are available only to @15 members -- you can become a member for free on at15.com.  After registering you will immediately receive an email that confirms your registration and includes a password. Ronald McDonald House Charities Scholarship Programs (RMHC)...  RMHC offers four different scholarships, one general, and then one each for Hispanic, African-American, and Asian students.  Award amounts vary.  Applications are available online at http://rmhc.org/what-we-do/rmhc-u-s-scholarships/ Deadline:  February 16, 2010.  (Date added:  01/13/10)

 

Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship... This program was created for the purpose of promoting student excellence and achievement and to recognize exceptionally able students who show promise of continued excellence.  Scholars in the TOP 10% of their class may receive up to $1500.  Program fact sheets, applications, and instructions can be viewed and downloaded at www.collegeforalltexans.com.  They are also available in your counselor's office or Transitions classroom.  Deadline:  TO MRS. George Wray Memorial Scholarship... This scholarship requires the application, transcripts, ACT/SAT scores, evaluations from counselor, English teacher, and other teacher, adult recommendation, and a personal narrative.  Applications available at your counselor's office or Transitions classroom.  Deadline:  February 26, 2010.  (Date added:  02/05/10)

 

Pedernales Creative Arts Alliance... PCAA is the organization that sponsors Fredericksburg's Octoberfest.  This year, they plan to award two $1,500 per year renewable scholarships to students who will major in fine arts in college.  Applications are available in your counselor's office or Transitions classroom.  Deadline:  February 26, 2010.  (Date added:  01/29/10)

 

Central Texas Electric Co-op...  CTEC is awarding thirty $1000 scholarships to active members and their immediate families whose primary residence is served by CTEC.  Applications are available in your counselor's office or Transitions classroom.  Deadline: TO MRS. Charley Wootan Grant Program... The program offers grants ranging from $1,000 to $4,245 to qualified undergraduate students. Only the first 2,500 applications from Texas and the first 2,500 applications from outside Texas received by Scholarship Management Services will be given consideration for a Wootan Grant. Applications received in excess of these 5,000 will not be opened and processed. You should complete the application and mail all required documentation in one envelope as soon as possible, so the sooner you mail this application, the better your chances of receiving an award.   The information for this year is not yet available.  For more information, go to http://www.aie.org/wootan/#FAQ5. Financial Women in Texas Hill Country Group Scholarship... The Hill Country Group of Financial Women in Texas is offering a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior from any of the hill country area high schools represented by their members.  Applicants should have a GPA of 3.00 or better and plan to major in business or finance.  Applications are available in your counselor's office or Transitions classroom.  Deadline:  February 28, 2010.  (Date added:  01/19/10)

Pedernales Electric Co-op Members... PEC is awarding 50 $1,000 scholarships to PEC members.  Applications are available in your counselor's office or Transitions room.  Deadline:  March 1, 2010.  (Date added:  01/13/10)

Teresa and David R. Schmidt, M.D. Scholarship Fund... Student must be a graduating senior of a high school in Bandera, Gillespie, Kerr, Medina or Uvalde Counties, pursuing a career in the medical profession (does not include pharmacy or MRI technician), and require financial assistance.  All applications can be accessed online at www.saafdn.orgThe students can click on the scholarship page.  Then go to Application Information.  Once there they can search for Schmidt.  Scholarships are listed alphabetically.  Other scholarships are also listed on this site.  Deadline:  March 1, 2010.  (Date added:  02/16/10)

Fredericksburg Masonic Lodge #794... Our local Masonic lodge is offering scholarships again this year.  You need to include a summary explaining your goals, why you need this scholarship, any community service or extra-curricular activities, and any special circumstances.  Applications can be downloaded here or picked up at your counselor's office or Transitions classroom.  Deadline:  March 1, 2010.  (Date added: 02/10/10)

 

Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year (SAMMY) 2010 Award Program... Twenty-five scholar athletes will receive a $7,500 scholarship.  From now until March 5, 2010, you may nominate student athletes (or, yes, even nominate yourself!) online at www.bodybymilk.com. Texas Telephone Association Foundation... TTA will award five four-year scholarships in the amount of $1,500 per year.  Students must have a gpa of at least 3.0.  Applications are due to Mrs. White by March 10 for submission.  Do not mail in scholarships yourself.  Applications are available in your counselor's office or Transitions classroom.  You may also access them www.tta.org.  Deadline:  March 10, 2010.  (Date added:  01/13/10)

 

Kerrville Performing Arts Scholarship... In addition to presenting a performing arts series, KPAS provides performing arts educational opportunities for young children. KPAS provides local students numerous opportunities to attend master classes and outreach programs by visiting professional artists.  KPAS also promotes future generations of performing artists by providing annual scholarships to local high school seniors who are planning to continue a career in the performing arts (instrumental music, vocal music, or dance).  Applications are available online, in your Transitions classroom, or in your counselor's office.  Deadline:  March 19, 2010.  (Date added:  01/29/10)

 

Kent Stehling Insurance Company Scholarship... This scholarship requires the following criterion:  yYour parents, grandparents, or you must be a current customer of Kent Stehling Insurance Agency; you must be a graduating senior attending Fredericksburg Independent School, Heritage School of Fredericksburg, Harper Independent School, Mason Independent School, or Ambleside School; you must be attending an accredited school to further your education, i.e.: college, technical school, military school, etc.; you must complete the  application and either mail to our office at 625 W. Washington St., Fredericksburg, Texas 78624 (ATT: Pat) or return the completed application to our office;  and you may attach your resume; however, their application MUST be filled out, also.  Applications available in your counselor's office or Transitions classroom.  Deadline: March 19, 2010.  (Date added:  03/11/10)

 

Charles, Lela and Mary Slough Foundation Scholarship... This scholarship is an award of $5,000/year for up to five years.  You must have at least a 3.0 GPA and be a Texas resident.  You will need to have completed your FAFSA before applying.  The application is available in your counselor's office, Transitions classroom, or at www.midland.edu/admissions/aid/forms/slough.pdf Deadline:  March 29, 2010.  (Date added:  01/13/2010)

 

South Central Branch James Bader Scholarship Fund... This fund was created to provide scholarship for those who wish to continue their education in a specific course of study, including engineering, public administration, business, or other types of coursework that could ultimately lend itself toward public service.  You must be an active member or a spouse, child, or grandchild of an active or former member of the South Central Branch of the Texas Public Works Association for 3 or more months prio to the date of the application.  Two $1,500 scholarships will be awarded.  Applications are available in your counselor's office or Transitions classroom.  Deadline:  March 31, 2010.  (Date added:  01/29/10)

 

Gillespie County Catholic Youth... The Catholic Daughters of America, Knights of Columbus, St. Ann's Society, and St. Joseph's Society at St. Mary's Catholic Church are sponsoring scholarships worth $500 each to Gillespie County seniors who are practicing Catholics.  Applications are available in your counselor's office or Transitions classroom.  Deadline:  March 31, 2010.  (Date added:  02/19/10)

 

Hill Country Chapter of the Texas Tech Alumni Association... This association if offering scholarships of up to $1,000 for students planning to attend one the the Tech campuses in the fall of 2010.  This includes the Fredericksburg campus.  Applications are available in your counselor's office or Transitions classroom.  Deadline:  March 31, 2010.  (Date added:  01/19/10)

 

APRIL

Capital Farm Credit Hill Country Regional Scholarship... A $1000 one-time scholarship will be given to students pursuing a degree in an agricultural* or educational field of study. Ten$1,000 scholarships per year will be given to students from the following counties: Bandera, Blanco, Gillespie, Kendall, Kerr, Kimble, Llano and Mason. College Connection--Austin Community College... One $2500 award will be given to an eligible Harper student who will attend ACC for the 2010-2011 school year.  Students must have a 2.25 GPA or higher and submit the FAFSA.  There is one application for this and SEVERAL OTHER SCHOLARSHIPS.  Applications are available at www.austincc.edu/foundation or in your counselor's office or Transitions classroom.  Deadline:  April 1, 2010.  (Date added:  02/26/10)

 

Texas Exes Scholarship for those accepted to the University of Texas-Austin... The Fredericksburg Chapter Texas Exes is offering scholarships this year.  You need to complete the application, including your resume and two letters of reference.  Applications are available in your counselor's office or Transitions classroom.  Deadline:  April 1, 2010.  (Date added:  01/13/10)

 

FOR COLLEGE JUNIORS, SENIORS, GRADUATE STUDENTS:  Hill Country Chapter of Women's Auxiliary to the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association Agriculture Related Scholarship... Ozarka "Every Drop Counts" Earth Science Scholarship... For nine years, Ozarka has awarded two Texas students a $10,000 scholarship each.  This scholarship is intended for students pursuing degrees at a four-year college or university in the field of earth/environmental science, including Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, Environmental Law or Education, Forestry, Oceanography, and Ecology.  Applications are available in your counselor's office or Transitions classroom.  They are also available at www.ozarkawater.com  under "Doing Our Part" at the top of the page.  Deadline:  April 2, 2010.  (Date added:  02/08/10)

Hochheim Prairie Branch #151 in Fredericksburg... This is for a $500 one-time scholarship that may be used at the university, college, or technical school of your choice.  Applications are available in your counselor's office or Transitions classroom.  Deadline TO MRS. South Texas Press Association Scholarship... This scholarship is for students who will be pursuing a career in newspaper journalism.  This will be for a $1,500 award.  Applications are available in your counselor's office or Transitions classroom.  Deadline:  April 15, 2010.  (Date added:  01/29/10)

 

Gillespie County Farm Bureau Education Scholarship Grant... Farm Bureau membership is NOT a requirement.  They will award $3,000-$4,000 agriculture or rural-related scholarship grants for recipients attending a college or university with a 2.5 GPA and SAT of 900+ or ACT of 17+.  Trade school applicants can be awarded up to $1,000 with a minimum of 2.0 GPA.  Deadline:  April 15, 2010.  (Date added:  01/29/10)

 

Fredericksburg Edward Jones Business Ethics Scholarship... The Fredericksburg Edward Jones Financial Advisors will award $2000 to a Gillespie County high school senior graduation in 2010 who has a minimum GPA of 3.0, SAT score of 1100, OR ACT score of 21.  This application must include an interview with a local business and an essay entitled "Ethical Conduct in Business."  More information is available in your counselor's office or Transitions classroom.  Deadline: Must be dropped off at any Edward Jones office in Fredericksburg by 4:30 pm on April 15, 2010.  (Date added:  02/08/10)

 

*LOCAL FOR HARPER STUDENTS ONLY*  Harper First Baptist Church...  The First Baptist Church of Harper is proud to offer a one-time scholarship to a deserving Harper High School graduate who will be attending a two- or four-year college, university, or trade school of their choice.  The awarding of this scholarship will be based on the following:  Character;  Service in school, community, and church;   Academic achievement;  Letters of recommendation; and  Financial Need.  Applicants should meet the following criterion:  Must have at least a 2.5 high school GPA OR an SAT of 900 or ACT of 18;  Must provide proof of acceptance from college or university.  Deadline TO MRS. Fredericksburg Jaycee's Scholarship... The Jaycee's are again offering scholarships for any student who is attending a trade school, vocational school, junior college or university.  Applications are available in your counselor's office or Transitions classroom.  Deadline to MRS. Fredericksburg Rotary Club Scholarship... Rotary is an international fellowship of business and professional leaders, both men and women, dedicated to the ideal of service locally and worldwide.  Scholarships are intended for an individual of any age who wishes to further his or her education – both academic and/or technical. Ten (10) $500 Scholarships will be awarded. Several scholarships will be awarded to students pursuing technical training and several for those seeking 4 year degrees. One is specific for a high school Rotary INTERACT member and 1 for a Civil Engineering student. Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association... This is open to all students attending Harper High School, Fredericksburg High School, or the Heritage School, who will be pursuing a degree following high school.  Applications are available in your counselor's office or Transitions classroom.  Deadline to MRS. *LOCAL FOR HARPER STUDENTS ONLY* RBD Foundation and HHS Alumni... This application is for two separate $4000 scholarships to be awarded to Harper High School graduates.  The RBD Foundation Scholarship is an annual award presented to high-achieving students.  The HHS Alumni Scholarship is an annual award that is fully sponsored and administered by alumni of Harper High School.  You must a GPA of 90 or higher.  Applications are available in your counselor's office or Transitions classroom.  Deadline TO MRS. Hill Country Home Builders Association (HCHBA)... HCHBA is a professional, non-profit organization chartered in 1995 whose members participate in, or support, the building industry throughout 12 counties.  The HCHBA is affiliated with the Texas Association of Builders and the National Association of Home Builders. Scholarships are intended for any high school graduate who wishes to further his or her education – both academic and technical – in a building trades/construction related field.  For example:  architecture, interior design, construction management, electrician, plumbing, building inspection, or land surveying.  Applications are available in your counselor's office or Transitions classroom.  Deadline:  April 30, 2010.  (Date added:  02/17/10)

*LOCAL FOR HARPER FFA MEMBERS ONLY*  Tyler Wilke Memorial Scholarship, Shelia Zant Memorial Scholarship, Clayton Massey Memorial Scholarship...  These three scholarships have the following criterion:  must have attended HHS for three years; must have not been convicted of a felony; must have at least an 80 average in eight semesters of work; must have completed at least two years of ag science courses; application must be typed; must be a paid member of the FFA; must have participated in at least 5 FFA activities above the chapter lever.  Applications are available in your counselor's office or Transitions classroom.  Deadline to MR.
